I’ve used Google Website Optimizer and a few of the development frameworks for multivariate testing, and they are no comparison to Visual Website Optimizer.

I have one solid year of testing under my belt (63 tests) with Google Website Optimizer, and I’ve just switched to Visual Website Optimizer.
It’s major benefits are:
1. Unheard-of customer support (the lead developer, Paras Chopra, answered all my (10+) questions himself, the same day). 2. Very intuitive, quick, and easy-to-use interface (Web 2.0 style). 3. No need to upload code on your website (you do it just once when you sign up, and you can create as many tests as you want afterward).
The downsides are:
It’s in beta (at the time I’m writing this), so sometimes a bug shows up. Last time it did, Paras Chopra fixed it for me in 30 minutes.
Full disclosure: I’m in no way linked to Visual Website Optimizer, except that I use the software. I’m not being paid for this review.
I used Google’s Website Optimizer, but it was crap compared to Visual Website Optimizer. VWO shines because:
1. No need to update javascript with new tests
2. Set up tests visually (really!) in minutes
3. Many ways to track goals: especially “Click on a Link”, where the page to be tested tracks this click, not to page where it links to. Anothers interessting goal is “User Engagement” (tracks every click)
4. Realtime statistics. It helps very much setting up a test und checking if it really works. After that you can flush the data and start over without your clicks.
5. Very flexible to start, stop, pause and clone tests.
6. Very good and fast support

I just finished running a promotion/launch that generated over 7 figures in less than 7 days. Visual Website Optimizer allowed us to split test in record time (literally 5 minutes) and make decisions in less than an hour as it produces REAL TIME RESULTS! We could not afford to have the day of lag time to make a decision as it would mean several thousand of missed optins. I not only use them on all my launches now but have told everyone that this is one tool that MUST be used.

I’ve used (and struggled with) Google Website Optimizer for a couple of years.
I’ve found more actionable results from my first month using VWO than in the previous two years with GWO.
The reason is that VWO is so damn simple to use that you cannot HELP but test stuff.
Instead of my heart sinking at the thought of setting up a test, I’m testing as much as I can.
You add 2x chunks of HTML once, then everything else is done in a simple WYSIWYG interface.
Unlike GWO, there’s no tiresome tagging & it’s hard to screw up test setup.
Support is A+ and is dealt with by Paras, the developer. He reponds so fast that I can only guess that he never sleeps.

Compared this tool to Googles and Optimizely. Used it quite a lot, but have now cancelled my account. Service and support great, but the actual “software” to me is slightly beta. The editor has issues if you change or renew tests a lot. The graphics are not easy to interpret if you have more complex tests. So a good beginners choice and good price/support. But I now prefer optimizely. Also found if difficult to believe the numbers, did a benchmark (comparing identical versions) and was not impressed. Manual insert of goal tracking on my pages was not that easy.

I have used this service before and I must take my hat off to the guys over at Visual Website Optimizer – what a powerful, easy-to-use software. Integrates almost seamlessly with WordPress!

I really like this system, however it would be much better if the got rid of some of the bugs. Its great value for money too. There customer support is great also.

I’ve used Vertster, Google Website Optimizer and Visual Website Optimizer. VWO is my favorite.
My favorite features:
- Easy to install. You put the VWO code on your website once and you never have to touch it again.
- Easy to test. If you don’t know how to code, VWO’s graphical interface makes it easy to make variations by simply pointing, clicking and changing. You can also do it the old fashioned way my changing the code yourself.
- Traffic segmentation. You can show the test to visitors coming from a specific site or searching for a specific keyword.
- Asynchronous script. The new asynchronous script will not negatively affect load time. Vertster is pretty slow loading.
- Revenue tracking. Most important
metric in my market. Vertster has it, GWO doesn’t.
- It’s cheap. It’s not free like GWO, but it’s worth paying a few hundred bucks to make my life easier. Vertster was overpriced at 2K a month.
The Cons
- Although customer support is great, I usually have to wait 12-24 hours for a response because the company is located in India and I’m in the US.

These guys are great really easy to use software and very very responsive via email.
However the big let down with this software is that it is very buggy indeed. I’m sure they will resolve the bugs but for now it can be frustrating to use.
